This started as a project to replace a lost lens cap. I soon realised that I could not make a thin, spring-loaded cap like the original so moved to a more flexible model.
By creating a generic drum shape and cutting slits into the skirt of the drum you get a flexible cover that can stretch slightly over the covered object to achieve a snug fit.
I added a chamfer on the inside to aid in sliding over the covered object.
To customize the device you only need to define 3 variables:
1. internalDiameter - the diameter of the object you want to cover
2. internalDepth - the height of the cover
3. wallThickness - self explanatory.
These 3 dimensions determine the overall size of the basic drum shape of the cover.
Other variables may be changed as you see fit.
1. numSlits - how many slits to cut in the skirt of the drum
2. slitWidth - self explanatory
3. chamferHeight - height of the chanfer on the internal leading edge
4. cw - width of the chamfer on the top of the cap
