Customizable Polygon Gearwheel

Can you design a gearwheel that is not round? How does the conterpart look like?
To answer these questions I came up with this design that works with regular polygons (3 to 12 edges) and constructs the "fitting" counterpart.
Use the openSCAD source to choose the number of edges and further parameters.
