Designed as a cheap knockoff of the R-Series, the D3 Astromech was an affordable alternative for thrifty pilots.
Due to cost cutting measures, the D3 line had a faulty personality matrix, leading to these droids developing very strong willed personalities as time passed. Some pilots countered this with fairly regular memory wipes, while others preferred the companionship that a more sentient droid provided.
