Deck vent

This deck vent has a transparent polycarbonate lens to allow a little light into the cabin. The other above deck parts are stainless steel, two stamped parts, the dome and the deck flange. These outer parts could be redesigned in a PC-ABS or PC-PVC and still withstand the weight of a person on them as well as UV and salt water, it seemed that steel was still a good choice. The exterior parts are designed with a minimum profile and no protuberances or openings on which to stub a toe. The mechanism opens and closes in about 1/3 turn of the cross bar on the interior. The helical slots ride on balls set in a rubber part. The tube protrudes slightly into the interior when the vent is open. There are no visible fasteners on the interior.
