©️2023 A conceptual sample collection module designed for a planetary or Mars rover. The module uses a rotary drilling mechanism on a vertical column to extract soil samples from 300mm below the surface. A stepper motor powered actuator moves the drill horizontally after extraction, positioning it above a sample catching tray on an elevated platform. The collected sample drops into a self sealing collection tube through a one-way valve mechanism that closes automatically once the sample is inside. A spring loaded bed beneath each tube tilts it outward when loaded, making room for the next empty tube. The system holds 20 collection tubes arranged in a circular pattern, rotated into position by a DC motor. A servo motor manages the final disposal stage. Primary material is aluminum alloy.
