So, if you have a beam under load, and you want to quickly gage the deflection, use this. Once the deflected beam surface has cleared a particular ridge (e.g., the one marked "10"), you know the beam has deflected 10 degrees. This gages by important bend intervals up to 25 degrees (exhibited by full clearance of the meter).
