Wanted a mini shelf for holding some small electronics on my desk.
Rather than print the entire thing, I used 3 acrylic sheets and printed the supports to stack them together.
This design will work for as many shelves as you want. The middle sections just screw into each other. With a foot and cap covering the threads at both ends.
The resulting item was surprisingly nice.
I bought the acrylic off ebay and used a standard (wood) hand saw to cut it to size. Drilling the holes was a bit of an issue. I started with a 4mm drill and that was fine, but a 10mm twist drill caused some chipping. I believe a Forstner bit it what you are meant to use.
**Update:** A cheap step drill works fantastic (apparently adding a little dish soap makes it cut even better).
If you have a printer that's actually good, I'd imagine that printed shelves in a translucent material would also look really nice.
I added some non-slip plastic to the bottom of the feet too.
