This is the housing for a digital tachometer I made for my mini-lathe. The rest of the parts are available from amazon for under $40.00 (listed below). It reads from a proximity sensor and a magnet so it can retro fitted to pretty much anything that spins. According to amazon, the tach I used has a range of 5-9999 RPMs. I've tested from 100-3500 RPMs (the range of my mini lathe). I think it's available in display colors other than green but you'll have to figure that out through amazon if you want to.
My Youtube video is linked bellow but it isn't intended to be fully instructional. The wiring diagram that comes with the tach is about all you need. I put the rocker switch on the positive side, right after the power supply and I used the female to male adapters included with the power supply to make a female connector for the power supply to plug into.
