DM51 grenade

The DM51/DM51A1 explosive/fragmentation grenade is the standard hand grenade of the German Bundeswehr, with DM standing for "German model". Its introduction in 1974/75 replaced the DM41 fragmentation hand grenade and the DT11, DT11B1 and DM21 explosive hand grenades used in the Bundeswehr. The hand grenade is manufactured by Diehl in Nuremberg (lots DN and DNM).[1] It is delivered ready to throw in a packing box as a fragmentation grenade. By removing the barrel-shaped fragmentation body with around 6500 steel balls, you get a pure explosive grenade with a fuse. The DM51 is equipped with the DM82 fuse and the DM51A1 with the DM82A1B1 fuse. The difference between the two fuses is different primer caps and different detonators. Stocks of DM51 were converted to DM51A1 in the ammunition depots Löwenstedt (LOS LOE), Rheinböllen (LOS RHE), Schierling (LOS SCH) and Walsrode (LOS WAL), among others.
