Dragon Shell Ornament

Early glass ornaments of the 20th century were delicate by nature, lightweight, and produced in fantastical shapes and vivid colors.

I wanted to create a modern twist on those classics while still adhering to those original notes:
*Lightweight: as an ornament shouldn't stress the branch.*
*Colorful: as the newer multiple color filaments easily provide.*
*Fantastical: going beyond what was possible in glass molds using 3D printing.*

Specifically designed to use Spiralize or Vase Mode keeping the part weight at 15 grams and using only 5.2 meters of filament. The resultant bridging allows light to filter in and through. The facets were cupped to allow light to bounce off them and highlight the different colors when using multi-colored filament.

I worked on the top of the model to fix all early issues with filament stringing near the tip. On the bottom the overhang is designed to print cleanly.
