The Dynamic Terrestrial Habitat is a conceptual design for a Martian habitat for the Makerbot Mars Base Challenge.
The DTH is highly configurable, relying on a scalable modular design. In the configuration uploaded, it is scaled to be launched on NASA's SLS Block II rocket in a single launch to minimize cost. Once in LEO, the DTH can rendezvous with an interplanetary transfer stage and crew launched separately. In space the hub of the DTH can serve as additional living space for the crew. Upon arriving at Mars (or any other terrestrial destination, such as the Moon, Europa, or even a large asteroid), the DTH will use aerobreaking when available, possibly utilizing a decedent of NASA's prototype LDSD. A combination of parachutes and rocket motors will then deliver the DTH safely to the surface.
Once on the surface, the DTH will unfold its modules for use. These modules can be configured to any need a mission requires; from inflating into more living space and garden space, to power
