I created this model of earth as a pair of hollow hemispheres, which screw together to create a single ball. These are labeled in pairs, North and South. This model contains sea depth data as well as land height, it's the geometry of the earth you'd see if you "boiled the oceans". If you're thinking of doing this, I strongly recommend you print this model instead.I think this is an awesome display piece, it's based on genuine NASA topographic data.I used this image: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:World_elevation_map.png as a base for the texture for this model. I processed the image quite a bit to make it more suitable for modelling. The height of the surface of the model relates to height above or below sea level, although I've adjusted the levels to make a better print. It should be noted that the surface is greatly exaggerated, if the earth was scaled to the size of a pool ball, it's surface would be smoother. Without that adjustment, it would make a very dull (and also impressive) print.There are 2 sets of Earth files attached, a complete spherical pair and pair labelled "Mountable", which have recesses at the poles. There's a mount to go with the mountable pair in the files, you need 1 base plate, 1 mount, and 2 pivot pins. I've designed it all to press together, the part's fit correctly when printed on my printer. You might need to add or remove clearance depending on your own printer's tolerances.I've designed this print to be scalable. It prints fine for me at 100% and at 50%. I expect it will print fine bigger or a bit smaller than that.The globe models need to be laid flat for printing, and will require support.A note on scaling: I printed the model currently shown at 50% scale for speed, it's fine, but I honestly feel it's a bit disappointing, I'd recommend going to 100% if you have the patience. I'll print a 100% one and update the images when I get time.A note on assembly: When you screw this together, if you can't get the continents to line up
