I hate losing gear in the ocean while fishing from my kayak. I've been tethering my rods for years to keep rods and the tethers are cumbersome.
I had some success with the 'pipe insulation' but when casting, the line would hit the insulation and reduced the distance of the cast. A pool noodle floats that looked like sausages just look so ugly. I decided to try an eccentric rod float.
An excentric float was needed that wouldn't impede the casting. So, I tried this out. I made it modular to be superglued together so that many rod sizes would work. I placed small piece of closed-cell foam between the float and the rod to limit damaging the rod.
I modeled rectangle holes in an arc so that I could use zip ties to attach the float to the rod.
The bottom of the float is designed for a 12mm diameter rod. The closed-cell foam helps with adjusting to other sizes and shouldn't cause damage to the rod if you don't crank down on the zip ties too hard.
