I was faced with a loose switch plate when I moved in to this house. It was wobbly, a piece of wood kind of holding it in the small opening. Not a good thing when reaching for it in the dark! No refit boxes from the hardware store would fit the 50mm wide opening and I really didn't see the need to enlarge the hole. This should fit most north american wall plates from Voltek, Bticino, etc; the screw holes are the standard distance apart for most systems and the opening is sized for them as well. Its only function is to receive and hold the two screws from the switch cover. If it's too big, a bit of sanding might help, and a two part epoxy is recommended to keep it in place.
