I wanted to convert my Ender 3 to direct-drive, but I also wanted to use an E3D-style hot end. This design uses the HeroMe E3D fan duct (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3291101) and the J-Struder extruder (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3070890). It prints in two parts so only requires supports underneath the RJ45 mounts. RJ45 breakout boards and WAGO lever nuts are used for connectivity between the extruder and the electronics. See my RJ45 Connectivity Suite (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3070890) for more.
It is a little wobbly in operation but that hasn't shown up in the prints.
