I made this because I had some trouble measuring my filament, while testing the E-Steps, going through the excellent guide on https://teachingtechyt.github.io/calibration.html
Because of the way the filament feed into the ender 5, and where the roll is located, I just couldn't get the filament straight while using a normal ruler. Also made it near impossible marking the filament while trying to hold a ruler and filament in one hand and marking with the other.
This makes it very easy. Fit it around the filament and push it up against the stepper motor. Once its placed, its also easy to hold with one hand, so you can use a marker with the other.
