Before they settled on the final design of the Excelsior, the modelers for Paramount, they had three noticeably wild designs for it. Using the sketchup designs as a base and modding the parts from the standard Excelsior, I upgraded and modded the designs to make them slightly more Star Trek-y and interesting while staying true to the original models.

The ships themselves ended up both in a graveyard shot after the Battle of Wolf 359, and in 'moth balls' in a shipyard scene in Reunification.
