Extended Door Catch

This is an extension to the latch on a typical interior door.

It is useful to secure the door open about 2 inches to allow ventilation while still keeping pets and small kids out of your room. It's not for security, but also should keeping the prying eyes of guests from surveying your room during a party.

Simply fit the tabs around the edge of the door with the latch through the hole. Close the door until the other end aligns with the latch hole in the strike plate. (You may have to flex the extension past the door jamb.) Press the "button" to push the projection into the latch hole. The first time takes a little force as you are both deforming the plastic and also knocking the rough pieces of wood in the hole out of the way.

I have not tested it but the design should also scale in length to fit various thicknesses of doors. Unscaled it fits 1 3/8" interior doors which is what all of mine are.
