Here it is my external spool holder with ball bearings.
The spool can unroll very smoothly and effortlessly. It present the advantage to be external, so your printer's frame is not affected by the weight of the spool or the force needed to pull filament.
I use it since months and had no issue, it is much better than the standard spool holder on my Prusa MK3S. There is also a wall version which is printable without support too.
It requires
- 2X ball bearings 25 X 42 X 9 mm : https://www.123bearing.com/bearing-6905-ZZ-INOX.php
- 2X External circlips Ø 25 : https://www.123bearing.com/accessory-external-circlip-CIRCLIP-EXT-25.php
The base part prints without supports
The cylinder part prints with supports everywhere, but you can set 30° in your support settings so you have only supports on the ends, not in the middle and it prints nicely.
