3D Printed Catheter / Medical Tubing Cutting Jig
This 3D-printed cutting jig, designed by Damian Carr, is intended to help users cut small extrusions such as catheters or medical tubing accurately and consistently. The jig allows tubing to be cut perpendicularly while using a French scale measurement system for quick sizing.
The design includes slots that support several common cutting techniques used when working with flexible tubing and catheter components.
Supported cutting methods
Roll Cut – The blade is partially inserted into the extrusion and the tubing is rotated 360° while maintaining blade contact. This technique can be useful when cutting reinforced tubing or assembled catheters containing braided wire, as the rotation may help produce a cleaner cut.
Slice Cut – The blade is held at an angle and moved forward or backward through the material. This slicing motion can reduce cutting resistance, and the jig helps guide the blade to improve consistency.
