The inspiration for our fidget ring was the idea to solve a very common problem among our friends. We fidget a lot in class and sharing a table together caused us to experiment with items and see which one was the most helpful towards our problem. We referenced fidget toys and products that others have produced. When we found out about this 3D printing project, we instantly knew we could use this as an opportunity to help us as students to stay focused in class. During the project, we faced the challenge of how to make a design that would actually function when printed out of plastic. Using a 3D printer, there are certain limitations to the size, color, and construction of the item you’re printing.Our model of our fidget ring is an up-scaled version of the actual fidget ring. The gears are the main attraction and is what is going to be a tactile satisfaction for users. Due to the fact that Tinkercad does not provide gear shape bases, we needed to use a previously made gear shape. The creator of said gear here: https://www.tinkercad.com/things/b1FM2qkMcQv-heart-gear The fidget ring can be a useful tool to help people stay on task. If this item were ever to go into actual production, it would be made out of lightweight aluminum. We estimate that this product would cost approximately eleven dollars. There are so many people who fidget and would buy this product because of its function and affordability.
