The purpose of this system was to remove the factory top-mounted spool holder with a side-fed system, so that a dry box or other side spool setup can be used.
I have a Sidewinder X1 printer, but it works with standard v-slot gantry tubing (6 mm opening).
side a basic overview video: https://youtu.be/Zin0pQ98uuM
Key features:
• Utilizes the factory filament break sensor, but changes the mount to reduce drag
• Minimizes drag throughout the whole setup
• Keeps the system very low profile
• No modification of the X1 is required
• Prints can be mirrored for right hand or left hand feed direction
• Optimized parts kept as small as possible, and design for 3D printing (minimal supports)
• Can be used with other printers that use the same gantry support beams
Bearings and tubing:
(my links go through "Smile" program for donation to charities. If you don't want to go that way, in the link type "www" instead of "smile"):
Bearings: These have thick grease in them, so us
