I have no room for a spool holder on my table. I printed this to hang the spool above my printer.
I tried print-in-place bearings but they didn't run free enough so I designed bearings to use 1/4" nylon (any material really) balls. They are widely available. The McMaster number is 9613K17.
After printing and assembling the bearings, I used an electric drill to spin them for a while to wear them in and loosen them up a bit.
I printed everything in PLA with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer height.
The outer bearing race has a print-in-place plug that's pretty tight. I used a sacrificial ball and plyers to pop it out from the inside.
I used a short piece of insulated, solid copper electrical wire to hang the hanger.
You can use a little glue on the things I've called "hanger nut" to hold them on but so far, I've just pressed them on and they seem to stay put.
