# Filament Wipe Insert
This is a thing that sits between your 3D printer filament and extruder. It wipes any crumbs, dust, grease, hand oil, crust, wax, and other gnarly stuff off of the filament before it goes into your expensive, finicky, testy, often depressed and touchy hot end.
There are [many others](http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:153807) like this, but this one is mine. I wanted a version that was easier for me to parametrize, so I made my own in Onshape [here](https://cad.onshape.com/documents/711c231c63548266bdfc3f4b/w/5c769f449772a3028b99889e/e/d627cc5615052fab09bab77d).
## How to Use the Thing
You stuff some natural sponge or microfiber into the inside. Then thread the filament through the cap, through the spongey/microfibery inside, out the bottom, and screw the thing together. It is now wiping up a storm, which should help your hot end through those rough patches when it just doesn't want to go to the party, it just wants to stay home and read a book, you know?
