This is a 3D print of the Finance attractor, which is similar in shape to the more well-known Lorenz attractor. Attractors are limit sets of dynamical systems. Dynamical systems are defined by a collection of multidimensional first-order differential equations that describe the evolution of some sort of real-life phenomena, such as the movement of a particle through space. Systems can be studied in terms of the states they stabilize to, their attractors. See https://mathworld.wolfram.com/Attractor.html for more information on attractors. Also see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cw3Y2oaN0yk for more on the Finance Attractor specifically.
To print this object, an Ultimaker S7 was used with two different kinds of ink. One was for the actual desired shape and one was a dissolvable filament that was printed around that shape. This way, the full print could be dissolved in water for 24 hours, leaving only the attractor. This prevented more complicated measures from needing to be taken, like
