Quick first layer test for the Kobra S1, just 17 minutes to print. In a 3D print, the first layer test is a crucial calibration procedure to ensure that the first layer of filament adheres properly to the print bed. A perfect first layer serves as the foundation for the entire object; if it fails, the entire print risks peeling off or warping. This test allows you to identify compromised areas more quickly. Procedure: Clean the bed: Remove dust and finger grease using 99% isopropanol alcohol (IPA) or warm, soapy water. Start the print and observe: As the printer deposits the first layer, carefully observe the filament laydown: Too high: The lines are separated, do not adhere, or appear cylindrical. Too low: The filament appears transparent, torn, or wrinkles form because the nozzle "digs" into the already deposited material. Perfect: The lines are slightly compressed, meeting perfectly without gaps, and creating a smooth surface.
