Landstown High School Governor’s STEM & Technology Academy Advising Instructor: Jennifer Renne We’ve all had that problem where your headphones are completely tangled up when you take them anywhere. There are many gadgets that already exist to resolve this issue. While there are countless gadgets to organize to wrap your headphones wires around, my design is different in its very structure. The problem with similar gadgets is that they remain a separate part of the headphone once you’ve unraveled it. They’re fundamentally glorified spools for your headphones. Likewise, this can lead to people losing it and having to replacement it. I find this to be a design flaw that ruins the purpose of the gadget itself, which leads to some people not even bothering to own one. As such they are rather ineffective solutions for the problem. My design is quite different from the conventional spool for headphone wires. First, the wire is constantly threaded through the device. The headphone wire goes through the two loops like a thread and needle. This way, it essentially becomes a part of the headphones themselves and is able to move freely along the headphone wire. However, you are to remove it from your headphone only when you wish to do so. I made it so that it won’t just slip or fall off of the headphones, even when you have unraveled it. Second, my design is also foldable. I made it using two major parts with a small connector in between them to make them more flexible. This allows it to have two “modes” for it. The first mode is when it is fold in half to use for wrapping your headphone wires. In this state, you take you take the headphone wire and wrap it between the grooves above the loops. Its second mode is akin of standby when it is unfolded. This allows it to be compact and portable when it is in use. I also designed it in way that it is easy to take in and out of your pocket.
