This first order ambisonic microphone enclosure can be used to create immersive sound. Many people have been introduced to VR but they are not aware that there is a branch of research dedicated to VR sound. Ambisonics is an old technology that has been resurfacing with the growth of VR.
After a lot of trials and error, my friend Yigal Kamel (who is brilliant btw) helped me make this enclosure which we are using as our first prototype. We also made some PCBs and soldered some circuits in order to get the whole thing to work. The audio was decoded using Omnitone. Check out the ForgeJS library for an easy to deploy FOA decoding solution.
The encoding is really easy (written in Matlab but you can use Octave (free) too!):
W = FLU + FRD + BLD + BRU
