I have a few old camera tripods with quick release heads that were similar but different enough that the adapters wouldn't interchange. So I designed an OpenSCAD model that allows creating a customized adapter that can fit both. You can customize the width, length and height as well as taper angles on each side as well as accommodate flat and pan head mounting screws, 1/4-20 is typical, dimensions for a 3/8-16 screw are also included. There are many adapters on-line, but most I found consist of a single .stl file that's not as easy to modify.
For my two tripod heads, I found that 41mm width fit one and 43mm fit the other. If both sides were tapered, on a 41mm x 43mm adapter, it could fit both heads. The third Sima tripod head I have uses an adapter plate measuring 36mm square and about 7.5mm thick. It can be inserted in any orientation.
For a different shape adapter, one could modify the polygon() definition used in the linear_extrude() section.
