This was a special request from my wife, who asked for a custom bread lame for baking during lockdown! Priority was to have a razor-blade holder which we could keep in the kitchen drawers safely, and this was the solution.
This blade-holder uses 5 magnets to create a open/close latch, holding the blade in place while scoring bread and keeping the blade stowed in the drawer.
Magnet breakdown:
- Two magnets on the handle
- Two magnets on the spine
- One magnet on the cover-plate
Orient all magnets in the same direction (north "up"), affix with super glue.
Please remember to use caution when handling razor blades, and I recommend obtaining/printing a "sharps" container for spent blades.
Additions:
- Magnets used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NAL9I5H/
- Razor blade (Astra, double edged): https://www.amazon.com/Astra-Platinum-Double-Safety-Blades/dp/B001QY8QXM/
OnShape file w/ Assembly, if you want to resize magnet holes or : https://cad.onshape.com/documents
