These coasters highlight the beauty of the C3 axes of symmetry of the cubic unit cell of four types of minimal surfaces: Schoen’s Batwing Surface, Fischer-Koch C(Y), Fischer-Koch S, and Schoen’s Gyroid Surface. They can also be used to protect your table tops from coffee rings.

A minimal surface can be thought of as a surface that is stretched as tightly as possible within the edges that hold it in place. The shape of a soap bubble that forms within a wire frame is an example of a minimal surface.
