Garud (Sanskrit for ‘Eagle’) is a modular quad-copter fabricated using aluminum, carbon fiber and 3D printed ABS plastic parts. The design is unique and creative considering strength to weight ratio of drone body using the concept of ‘negative volumes’. The hollow pockets in the drone platform provide pathways for wires and electronic circuits which reduce the risk of short circuits and the generic problem of entanglement. Computer-Aided Design of the drone is realized using popular design and analysis software SOLID WORKS and CATIA for simulating structural strength of drone under flight and landing conditions. The results are within limits of material or structural strength and are found to under safety factor.
