Didn't like the latch on my gate and didn't find a better solution. So I made this one.
Notes: The threads didn't fit well so I ran a tap and die over them about half way so they tighten before going all the way through. Once mounted, I drilled a hole from the top down while the bolt was fully engaged and used a nail to lock the gate tops together. Ensures wind can't wiggle the bolt open or flex open the latch (see picture with tethered nail). Also, I used automotive double stick tape on mounting surfaces to set things in place and keep them positioned while securing with screws. The double stick tape also provides just a hair more wiggle room for bolt movements.
UPDATE: I don't use the nail lock anymore (long story) and haven't had any issues with the bolt sliding back. No issues for the last year, through serious winds and winter/summer extremes. So, I would skip that step if I ever needed another one of these.
