This is a design for a steampunk-themed, over-complicated mechanism of switching a light on and off. It is aimed to be fun to use and also uses a gear train and a rack and pinion mechanism. This design is approximately 91mm long, 103mm wide and 72mm tall. It is easily 3D printable, and I have an image on the gallery showing how each piece would print using FDM technology. I simulated each part being printed, and they all print easily. Minor supports are needed for just 3 of the 8 types of parts. Provided that the parts are all printed are their appropriate orientations, the whole model would use 49 grams of filament at 13% infill, though any infill is fine. When you pull the handle, a 20-tooth gear drives a 15-tooth gear, which then moves the rack up and down. This process happens on either side, and the two racks are connected with a block that moves with them, moving the switch into the opposite position. Pulling down will turn the switch on, and pulling up will turn it off. The gears are connected to axles, which rotate within support structures, one on each side. These support structures can be joined to the switch cover plate with an adhesive. The support structures also have an extension that fits below the rack and keeps it in place. I have also added semi-spheres with holes in the middle that can be put on the axles, acting as mechanical stoppers to make sure the parts do not move too much. I have accounted for tolerance with parts such as these stoppers, though it may vary a little depending on the printer, and parts can be scaled appropriately.
