Update 22-07-2016:
I am now using this geared platform with a proper metal bearing (I more or less gave up on printed bearings). I can happily scan at 8800 steps per revolution (1/8 microstepping 0.9deg per step) which produces excellent scans. If you print the gears with the correct extrusion multiplier (adjust to suit your printer) you can get near zero backlash on the assembled turn table.

-----------------

This is a modification to the BQ Ciclop with a 2.75:1 gear reduction in the turn table drive.

I found the direct drive was very marginal with my stepper motor running at 12VDC supply. When you add in the extra friction from a printed bearing or gear bearing its very hard to get reliable accurate stepping.

The external dimensions are all the same as the original apart from longer legs to support slightly longer motors. It should work with any Ciclop based 3D scanner with only minor adjustments.

There are also a few minor tweaks here and there, like making the table
