I have never built a functioning generator yet - so aiming to finish this one and charge my phone via hand crank.
My design started from what magnets i had available - 22mm x 15mm
Everything else took shape from there.
Still busy with this, will update as I go along

2016-11-07 -- I have got this working and I am getting just over 9v spinning the shaft with my fingers. which i dont think is too bad. I dont have anything else to compare this too, this is the first generator I have made that produces electricity.
Things i did not take into account:
The Wiring - wires everywhere. this is something you need to plan for.
Geometry of the rotor & Stator - my rotor has 4 magents and stator 6 coils. at the moment only one set (opposite coils "Fire" at the same time)
I have wired the set of coils (opposite ones) in series and then to a bridge rectifier.
then connected these three sets in series with a capacitor
