This more dedicated geodesic dome model is not based on any Platonic solid but rather modeled with the following constraints in mind:
* rotational symmetry of 6
* length of struts or beams as equal as possible
* few different strut lengths
* straight bottom line at the equator
I call it 18_6 dome. It comprises a total of 73 connectors and 198 struts, which is roughly comparable to a icosahedron 3v 5/8 geo dome with its 61 connectors and 165 struts.
Compared to the icosahedron dome it has a vastly increased number of different connectors and strut lengths, which building a real dome might not pose a big challenge with the right logistics.
Connectors are printed sequentially with a couple of them on the same built plate, watching out for collisions. The struts are meat skewers, which happened to be exactly 3mm in diameter, cut to length with a box cutter.
