This is a functional model of the inner planets I put together for my own graduation cap decoration. The model features the sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth and its moon, and Mars. Orbital speeds of each planet are proportional to each-other, and accurate up to 3 decimal places.
NOTE: Scale 2540% if your parts come in microscopic.
Parts List

In addition to the plastic components here, I also used:
- about 5 inches of 1/8 inch stainless steel rod (to hold the sun)
- about a foot of 1/16 in stainless steel rod (to hold the planets)
(1/16 welding rod works great!)
- a #6 sheet metal screw
