Guitar String Action Gauge

This handy guitar string action gauge is designed to simplify the process of setting the optimal string height (action) on your guitar. By providing precise measurements, it helps users achieve comfortable playability and avoid unwanted buzzing or intonation issues. The design allows for printing in either a single color or a more visually distinct two-color version (two plates included in the 3mf file). For optimal results when 3D printing, a layer height of 0.12mm is recommended, with a slightly thicker first layer of 0.24mm for better adhesion. Regarding correct string action (measured at the 12th fret): Generally, lower action (closer to the fretboard) allows for easier playing but can increase the risk of buzzing. 1 Higher action provides clearer tones but can be harder to play. Typical starting points are: Electric Guitars: Around 1.5mm to 2mm (high E to low E). Acoustic Guitars: Slightly higher, typically around 2mm to 2.5mm (high E to low E) to avoid buzzing due to larger string vibration. Classical Guitars: Generally the highest, around 3mm to 4mm (high E to low E) due to nylon strings having wider vibrations. These are just starting points, and personal preference and playing style will influence the ideal action for each player.
