I never liked that the pads on the HD558s were stuck on and when I got a pair of ATH-M50s I wanted to be able to swap pads between them. Now any pads that fit the M50s or similar can be put on the HD558s.
Might need some sanding on the inside ring this is on purpose to give a very secure fit. Hope they help someone out.
