Threaded inserts are powerful components to use in 3D printing designs when high strength threads are required. Compared to either printing threads directly or tapping threads afterwards, using threaded inserts can achieve higher thread line accuracy and thread wear resistance, and obtain higher load.

Threaded inserts are usually made of brass. By heating up the threaded insert and pressing the inserts into 3D printed parts, plastic material near the inserts will melt down and fill the gap between the insert and printed components. As the melted material cools down and solidifies, inserts are permanently inserted into the components.
