I saw nerdforge's video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OP-oEbzB6g&t=562s), but I didn't have enough room to hang their hexaleaf against the wall. So I made this small version. I use an arduino nano with the fastled or neopixel library. This is not a detailed description of how to put everything together.
But photos say more than words.... You can place the hexagonal boxes against each other to make the shape you want, you connect them together with the "HEX connector". To do this, cut or break out the provided thin walls on the side of the hexabox. I used 1 hexagonal box as a power box, with the place for the arduino nano and 1 adapter connection. Then I placed them on a sheet of plywood, marked the shape from the outside and sawed it out with the jigsaw.
After having painted the plywood black and screwed the boxes in place, you can mount the LED strips with the WS2812 leds, with me there are 8 strips with 11 leds. For looping through the 5V and the data IN and OUT i used little p
