A horizontal steam engine is a mechanical device that converts thermal energy from steam into mechanical work, with the cylinder arranged horizontally. In this project, a detailed 3D model of a horizontal steam engine is created using SolidWorks, focusing on accurate geometry, assembly relationships, and functional movement of components. The model consists of major parts such as the cylinder, piston, piston rod, connecting rod, crankshaft, flywheel, crosshead, slide valve mechanism, steam chest, and engine frame. Each component is modeled individually using SolidWorks features such as extrude, revolve, cut, fillet, and chamfer, ensuring dimensional accuracy and realistic appearance. The individual parts are assembled using appropriate mates to simulate the actual working motion of the engine. The reciprocating motion of the piston is converted into the rotary motion of the crankshaft and flywheel. The valve mechanism controls the admission and exhaust of steam, demonstrating the operational principle of the engine. This 3D model helps in understanding the construction, working principle, and assembly sequence of a horizontal steam engine. It can be used for educational purposes, mechanical design studies, motion analysis, and manufacturing visualization.
