Das Modell dient zur Erklärung der Hydratisierung von Kationen und Anionen.
Ein Ion kann jeweils von 4 Wassermolekülen umgeben werden. Die Ausrichtung der Wasserstoff- oder Sauerstoffatome zum Ion hin und die Ausbildung von Ion-Dipol-Wechselwirkungen kann erarbeitet werden.
Pro Schüler werden mindestens 1 Kation, 1 Anion und 8 Wassermoleküle benötigt.

An ion can be surrounded by 4 water molecules. The orientation of the hydrogen or oxygen atoms towards the ion and the formation of ion-dipole interactions can be explained.
