To protect this vital part of the exoskeleton from impacts. Attach with double-sided tape on the inside of the flat areas. Note that this will provide some level of insulation and may affect the ability of the hub to dissipate heat under heavy use, so this is something to be aware of if you use them. No supports needed, print at whatever layer height and number of shells works for you. It is meant to be sacrificial and crush under impact, so something like 2-3 shell layers and 25% infill is probably about right. Or you could print it from TPU and go denser on the infill to have something more resilient.
