"I ♥ Math" Gift Cylinder

This design was generated using an algorithm created by one of my research students, Zachary Ash. He has developed a method to map an digital image onto a surface (a manifold), such as the curved part of a cylinder. (The inspiration is George Hart's 3D printed cookie rollers: http://www.georgehart.com/rollers/)

Note that the design is upside down, which yields a better product because then the bottom is completely flat while the top is dimpled.
