Effectively utilizing the Design Process, we had to apply our knowledge of physics concepts from this high school physics course to create a motorized vehicle that could travel with maximum efficiency. Collaborating with those around us, we designed 3D models of chassis that would travel efficiently when attached to two sets of wheels and a fan. Alongside being functional, these chassis were also supposed to be creative and original.
Testing our printed cars, analyzing data, and calculating different forms of energy present, we are able to analyze true conservation of energy in an actual situation to the best of our abilities. The circuit inside of the battery-powered fan, which “loses” energy due to heat, produces a current, allowing the motor to spin the propeller. Unfortunately, energy is also “lost” here as the propeller needs to use energy to continuously spin. The spinning propeller then pushes the air, which then pushes the challis on wheels in response due to Newton’s Third
