If you have a Jones roman blind, does it stay up? If not, how many times have you replaced the sidewinder? We have 3 and on closer inspection, the reason they fail is the clutch spring moves on the spindle then grinds its way under the clutch plate rendering it useless. If only Jones had added shims to keep the clutch plate in place... oh wait, you can 3D print some and... problem solved!
I printed these in ASA at a 0.08 layer height to ensure there was enough material to make them robust. They are a tight fit, one is larger than the other and I fitted the larger (thicker?) one closer to the blind side. No real reason on reflection, I just wanted to fill up all the gap. The sidewinder now works, doesn't drop and I don't expect the spring to grind away at the casing anymore. Pack a little silicone grease in before reassembly. Make sure the clutch spring is on the correct way and the roller is inserted on the correct side, otherwise it won't hold up the blind.
Cheap and simple
