Kayak Maroske fitting

This is a Maroske fitting for a wooden kayak. Inspired by other designs, this has a 10mm hole and can take two 5mm lines, either bungee or normal.

Decide where the fittings should go and drill one 5mm hole. Then use the drilling jig and a 5mm drill shank to locate the template and drill the second 5mm hole, then enlarge them to 12mm. I use a stepped 12mm drill to reduce tear out. Mount the fittings from behind using some G/flex 650 epoxy from WEST systems making sure the wooden deck hole is fully saturated. They say that this bonds to PLA. Once fitted, inside the deck add a small fillet of thickened epoxy and then glass over the fitting using some bias cut cloth.

When that has all set, on the deck side trim the stub using a sharp saw and make sure the joint is sealed with a little more epoxy.

In use these make a neat way to secure deck lines and bungee cords.

I printed 10 of these for a 14 foot petrel play strip built kayak.
