My rendition of the Kiowa class frigate Apache from John Lumpkin's Human Reach series, originally illustrated by Atomic Rockets writer Winchell Chung.
Appearing during the second book, the Apache is the United States' main frigate class, representing a cheap and fast vessel that is still capable of the full range of general combat roles thanks to its combined laser-gun-missile armament. Throughout the book it primarily serves in an escort/wolfpack role for larger warships and supply convoys. Additionally, as a relatively inexpensive ship to deploy, the Apache is used to ferry diplomatic and military personnel across the Human Reach during the second book, however it is never made explicit if the ship has a berth for dropships like its larger counterpart or is just equipped with space to space pinnacle craft. In lieu of this I have modeled it with a smaller hanger based on the one used on the San Jacinto.
Update:
Added crests for the ship to the OBJ zip. The original illustration re
